About me!

  • Currently an MSc Data Science Student at University of Sussex.

  • Graduated with BSc Psychology with Economics from University of Sussex in 2023.

  • Proficient in R and Python for data science projects. Basic in SQL and Excel.

  • Outside of data science, I’m most likely out and about with the dogs, watching football or having fun playing video games with friends.

Hello! I'm Charlie...

…and I’m a data scientist! I’m always interested in utilising the powerful tools of statistical inference and machine learning to discover new insights into topics that interest me and that are important to explore.

Whilst I thoroughly enjoy diving into the ins-and-outs of novel statistical techniques, or writing code to analyse a data set (both of which you’ll find plenty of here!), what really draws me to being a data scientist is storytelling.

To make sense of the complexity of data, we first need to be motivated by a problem to solve. This provides the basis for how we explore data, what we pay attention to, how we observe and analyse the world. Without this, data is a sea of noise. But by developing a narrative, we can begin to identify the information which will help us to solve our problem.

My aim is to tell stories with data - to help people explore the questions they want answered by taking the insights of data science and making them understandable to anyone. Clearly, not everyone is, (or should be in my view), a data scientist. But they should want to know what’s true, what the evidence says, what the data says. Being informed is vital in any situation in life, and data is crucial to achieving that. With a clear understanding of the evidence, we can plan our next best steps in solving problems.

But data science is more than just incredibly useful. I’m also keen to show that exploring data is fun, rewarding and enlightening. My overall goal with my personal projects is to explore topics I find fun and interesting, whilst learning to make use of novel techniques and methods in solving questions. I’m keen to make accessible walkthroughs which tell a story, whilst also showcasing my approach along with the more technical details.
